Above: This is the ‘family house’, it has been there for more than 40 years i believe. I grew up here and so did the rests of the families. It was occupied by more than 25 people in this house. The ‘HMM’ logo is the most classy and became a trademark and memorable to all of us.

Above: This is the Chinese school, just opposite the ‘Rumah Kampung’. This chinese school became a legend to us… Everytime Chinese New Year celebrations, we used to stayed over and wait for the ‘Dung Dung Chai’ to dance infront of us. And after the dancing queen, we ran to the gerai and lined up for the best Ais Kacang. The Ais Kacang maker is named ‘si-Bangas’ and ‘si-gamuk’. Believe it or not, they are still operating their gerai as 30 years ago. The same taste, the same person, the same style… and the same baju. White top and light brown bermuda. Fantastic!

Above: Ha, you think we are a small family. No, you are wrong, this photo only showing 5% of the family… Jangan takoot.

The story of the day. Getting to know a little bit of Nenek’s life. Yesterday we went berhari Raya at Nenek’s house in Lambak. a very interesting side story of hers. So am going to share the moment of truth with the readers…

Have you heard Driving School named ‘Redza’? Well, she is the grandma or well known as Nenek of the Redza’s family. Her name is Dyg Hajah Aisha Bte Abdullah and she is between 72 and 74 years old. She was a chinese girl from Kuching converted to muslim, soon moved to Brunei and happily living. In fact, she is the grandmother of my huby, hmmm… my mother in law’s mother. Anyways, according to her that she was an adopted daughter of the Brooke’s 6th generations, related to Sir James Brooke back in 1940′s. She was also a closed friend to our late grandmother Allahyarhamah Pehin Jawatan Bini Hajah Masni during late 1980′s. Many secrets were told which i cant enclosed at this sites. Ssshhhhh… kalau mau mari sini duduk cerita cerita.

dsc00356.jpg

Above: My Huby, Nenek, Ak Shafiq, Pg Joli – By looking at her, with her age and physical look, she is still energatic. She used to travel by herself to America and Italy. Even to Mecca. She is the coolest grandmother and i am very glad that im one of her grand-daughter.

Above: The Brookes family… No wonder Nenek speaks English fluently.

 Me with ‘Friends’

Im so bored… *wink* so i re-do my old photos with ’Friends’… well, jangan jeles cos we had our photo taken when we were in a bath tub. Tsk Tsk Tsk… click it on, and take a closer look. Strictly no copyright, aight!

Huby with his Crews from Memphis Belle

Jangan mare… this photo was taken back in Year 1960′s… at that time my huby was the Captain for the Memphis Belle airplane… kwang kwang kwang..

  1. interesting story.. and insightful (=

  2. Believe it or not my dad used to be close to yr grand father untill we moved out of Brunei. The only things that stays in my memory about the house in seria is the two concrete balls on the gate post and the bakery shop where i use to buy bread from as a kid. I use to visit the houses of the late Uncle Hj Malai Mashor and Malai Hj Othman.

The mashors sure have grown into a big family…some faces i remember some i don’t.I’m sure your aunties knew me as a kid back then

  3. Alhamdulillah… ahlan, I ve been trying to find a suitable time to get as much as information to put up on this blog. Insyallah, when I have the time, I will do my best to gather all the input from others into this blogging area for the sake of everyone.
Its a good thing, to flash back the good old times, and I am very much happy to hear and read from you as the one of the reader whom finally saw the growth and updated and even the look of the ‘family house’ in seria. The Mashhor’s is growing bigger and bigger… numerous members until some of us doesnt even know that we are related. Kweng kweng kweng… bonus point tu!

  4. Back then my dad was in the elect dept, my mom was with the District Office and we stayed in a govt house whose front faces the CHMS, to the right it was the gas station and its back was the Post office. The house is gone and in its place sits a pyramid like structure. When we moved out Pg Jonis took over.

Yr Grand dad was a serious natured person compared to Malai Hj Othman who was always joking. I was only a kid of 4 yrs when i started to know ppl.

Had we stayed on maybe i would have known all of the malai. WE left Brunei in 72 and came back in 76 but settled in Bandar. Now i myself am working in USA since 06 togather with my family. My parents are still back in Brunei.

Only now when i’m abroad with my family then i try to catch up with friends and other stuff in Brunei. I use to be abroad for months to years without my family and I didn’t seem to be that home sick then. All that constant travelling made me really tired and i was missing my family time. My kids were growing up fast and they wanted do schools in the US . Kalo ku hantar as foreign students luan mahal belanja and so here we are the only Bruneian smack in the middle of nowhere.
